Excerpt From Daddy’s Little Girl, Chapter 1

Just a Little Girl

I figured out that the woman holding the baby in the stained glass window in church was his mother Mary. I knew he must be Jesus, but there was a picture of God his father. Joseph just pulled the donkey. I decided to ask my mother. She had gone to church all her life too, she should know.

When I asked Mama who God was and where he lived, she told me that God was Jesus’ Father and he lives in heaven. He is invisible and that I should always trust him to take care of me. After thinking about it for a moment, I thought, ‘He’s invisible? Invisible?’ Well, that explains why he’s not in the pictures. Mama said that he is a Spirit and that I could talk to him anytime I wanted to because he never went to sleep. I guess he didn’t have time to sleep because with all the people in the world talking to him how could he?

The invisible part interested me so I went outside in the yard by myself, looked up into the sky and talked to God about things I didn’t want to bother my mother with. I just figured he could hear me since he was God.
