Faith Confession III

Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

johsuaGod chose Joshua to lead the children of Israel into the Promised Land which He had given them.  God promised Joshua that, ‘Every place the sole of his foot tread upon, He had given him.  No man would be able to stand before Joshua all the days of his life.  Just as He was with Moses, He would be with Joshua.  Exodus 23:20-23 tells us that God sent an Angel before Moses to bring him in to his enemies and then God would cut them off.  Moses obeyed God’s voice without fear and did all that God spoke.  God did not fail him or forsake him.  He was an enemy to his enemies and an adversary to his adversaries.

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; — Joshua was commanded to only speak what God spoke.  Just as Moses was warned, Joshua was not to provoke the Angel by saying something that God didn’t say.  He told him to be strong and of good courage because Joshua would divide the land for an inheritance to the children of Israel.  We are to only speak the Word boldly by faith.  Fear has no part in what God is doing through us in Jesus’ name. God honors his spoken Word in the earth as He performs His will.

meditate

But thou shalt meditate therein day and night, — Just as Joshua, we are to love God and serve Him with all our hearts and all our souls.  Psalm 1:1-3 tells us that we are blessed when we delight ourselves in the law of the LORD by meditating in it day and night.  When we hear the voice of the Holy Spirit, we will know how to walk in the Word, stand on the Word, and sit in authority speaking from our rightful place in Christ in heavenly places at the right hand of God.  (Ephesians 2:6, Hebrews 1:3-4)

observe

That thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: — God told Joshua to be strong and very courageous.  Joshua 1:10-11 tells us that Joshua boldly commanded his officers to have the people prepare victuals, for within three days they would pass over the Jordan river to go in to possess the land which the LORD their God gives them to possess.  Jesus Christ has destroyed the works of the devil for us.  God gives us the ‘land’ as we go forward obeying his voice and speaking his Word. – knowing that He is with us wherever we go.

prosperousresFor then thou shalt make thy way prosperous — For the Angel of God to go before him and for God to cut off his enemies, Joshua had to have courage to obey God’s voice without fear.  Meditating the written Word of God day and night and then obeying the voice of God caused Joshua and the children of Israel to prosper. (do wisely) Zechariah 4:6 says,…Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit says the LORD of hosts.  Now, by the power of the Holy Spirit, not by our natural strength or ability, we must listen to and follow His voice.  With the Word of God in our hearts, we live by faith, acting boldly on the spoken Word of God.  As we advance the kingdom of God in the earth today, we must remember that the gates of hell shall not prevail against us, the church.  (Matthew 16:18)

successAnd then thou shalt have good success — When God speaks, what He has spoken is already done in the spirit.  Good success is ours as we go forward with the knowledge that just as the Angel of God went before Joshua to keep him in the way and to bring him into the place that God had prepared, the Holy Spirit will guide us into what God has prepared for us.  Good success is not only obtaining the promises of God, but also doing the Word, loving God, walking in all his ways and cleaving only to Him.  (Read Deuteronomy, Chapter 11)  We must not turn to the right or to the left to serve other gods and worship them.  Jesus said, Get thee hence Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.  (Matthew 4:10)

Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Make It Personal:

This book of the law shall not depart out of my mouth; but I shall meditate therein day and night, that I may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then I shall make my way prosperous, and then I shall have good success.
