Give and It Shall Be Given

Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given, unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom.  For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

God is a God of love.  He blesses us because He loves us. With the blessings of God, we are blessed to be a blessing to others.  Luke 6:38 says, give and it shall be given, unto you….  You make the decision to sow good or to sow evil, to sow blessings or to sow curses, to sow life or death.  With the same measure you measure with, it will be measured to you again, good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom.

Who is blessed?  Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:3-12 that the poor in spirit are blessed because theirs is the kingdom of God. But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)  Those who hunger and thirst after righteousness shall be filled.  Isaiah 55:1 tells everyone who thirsts to come to the waters and those who have no money to come, buy, and eat.  The Father freely blesses us so that we can be a blessing.  The merciful, the pure in heart, and the peacemakers are all blessed.  You are also blessed of God when men hate you, when they separate you from their company and reproach you, and when they cast out your names as evil, for the Son of man’s sake.  In Christ Jesus, we have received the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness.  Knowing this makes us able in times of ease and difficulty to love and to be a continual blessing to others.  As we consistently live and walk in the Spirit, He teaches, leads, protects, provides for us, comforts us and delivers us in all situations.

In Matthew 5:38-39a, Jesus says, ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, resist not evil:…Romans 12:17 says, Recompense to no man evil for evil.  Provide things honest in the sight of all men.  Hebrews 10:30 states, For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord.  And again, The Lord shall judge his people.  Proverbs 20:22 says, Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.

Yielding to Love is the key.  We are not to avenge ourselves, but commit all wrong done to us to God.  I Corinthians 13:4-7 tells us, Love suffereth long, and is kind;…doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;…endureth all things.

Jesus left us an example of love to follow.  I Peter 2:19-23 tells us what is worthy of thanks.  We are called to do well and suffer for it because Christ suffered for us even though he did not sin and he spoke no guile.  When he was reviled, he reviled not again and when he suffered, he didn’t threaten in return.  Instead, he committed himself to God that judgeth righteously.

To whom are we blessed to give?  If you only love people who love you and only do good only to those who in turn will do good to you, what thanks do you have.  If you lend hoping to receive again just like sinners, what’s the difference between you and them?  We as children of God are to be like God.  He rains on the just and the unjust.  He loves everyone, not just those who have chosen to be redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ.  He has shed his love abroad in our hearts and has given us his life.  What are we doing with his eternal life in us?  Are we allowing the devil to use us against the purposes of God by giving him place in our minds with bad attiudes and thoughts of revenge, or do we walk in love, following the leading of the Holy Spirit?

Luke 6:35 says, But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

Sow mercy.  Do not judge or condemn and you will not be judged or condemned.  Sow forgiveness and you will be forgiven.

Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given, unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom.  For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
